Concord, N.C. (October 12, 2007)
David Ragan and the No. 6 Discount Tire team had a great run in
Saturday's Dollar General 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Lowe's
Motor Speedway. Ragan qualified 10th and battled through a star
studded field to capture his eighth top-10 finish of the season. |

Ragan and the Discount Tire team looked to change their recent
misfortunes at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Ragan started the race in
10th position but lost four positions the first 30 laps of the
race. On lap 20, Ragan commented the Ford Fusion was arrow tight.
Ragan also said the back end of the car felt like it was going
to snap around on entry into the corners. Crew chief Mike Kelley
told Ragan to be patient and take it one lap at a time. The first
caution of the night flew on lap 26. Ragan was ordered to the pit
stall on lap 29 for adjustments. Kelley called for four tires,
fuel and an air pressure adjustment. |
 |
 |
 |
On the restart on lap 30, Ragan was in the 14th position. The
adjustments paid off. Ragan gained four positions over the next
30 laps. He settled in to the ninth position on lap 64. On lap 69,
Ragan was the fastest car on the track. Ragan battled NASCAR's
elite for the next 20 laps. A myriad of cautions slowed the action
but Ragan stayed consistent and hit his marks. A debris caution
flew on lap 85. Ragan was called to the pit stall for major
adjustments on lap 86. Kelley ordered four tires, fuel and an air
pressure adjustment. Ragan exited the pit stall in the 8th position. |
 |
 |
 |
On lap 96, Ragan commented the Ford Fusion was loose into the corners
and tight off. Ragan's handling problems did not deter him from gaining
valuable track position. On lap 115 Ragan was in the fifth position.
The seventh caution of the night flew on lap 125. Ragan entered the pit
stall on lap 127 in the seventh position. Kelley ordered four tires,
fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Ragan exited the pit stall in the
12th position. Many teams took two tires but the Discount Tire team took
four, a strategy that paid dividends at the end of the race. |
 |
 |
 |
On lap 162, Ragan said the car was extremely loose. He was able to
maintain the 11th position despite an ill-handling race car. The race
was marred by two late wrecks that collected nine cars. Kelley told
Ragan to block out everything and finish the race. |
 |
 |
 |
Ragan's Ford Fusion came to life on lap 194. Ragan got up on the wheel
and drove The Discount Tire Ford Fusion through the lead pack, passing
cars one by one. He gained five positions the last three laps of the race.
Ragan and the Discount Tire team captured a sixth-place finish. The
seventh top-10 finish of the 2007 race season. |
 |
 |
 |
"We had a great run tonight. The Discount Tire team battled all night
long," said Ragan. "Our Ford Fusion was a top-five car from the start
of the race. Aside from the mild handling problems during the middle
of the race it was a smooth night on the track and pit road. I hope
we can keep up this momentum the last four races of the year." |
 |
 |
 |
The sixth-place finish leaves Ragan fifth in the Busch Series point
standings. Ragan and the team will return to action Saturday,
October 27 at Memphis Motorsports Park. |
