Ragan Earns Top-10 Finish at Fontana |
 |

 |
Fontana, Calif. (August 30, 2008)
David Ragan and the No. 6 America's Tire team overcame many challenges
throughout the evening in the Camping World RV Service 300 at Fontana.
Ragan fought an ill-handling racecar for much of the night, but was
determined to secure a good finish. Ragan and the team were able to make
accurate adjustments towards the end of the race that allowed them to
put an end to their recent struggles and collect a well deserved ninth-place
finish. |

The race started on a 48-lap green-flag run that allowed Ragan to pick
up four spots immediately. Ragan's Ford Fusion was tight center off from
the outset of the race but he handled the car with exceptional skill.
Ragan made his first pit stop under a green flag on lap 38. Crew chief
Mike Kelley called for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment.
Ragan exited the pit stall in the 24th position, but as the rest of the
field cycled through their green-flag stops, Ragan settled into the 10th
position by lap 48. A debris caution put a halt to the action on lap 55.
Ragan commented his Ford Fusion needed to turn better late exit. Kelley
ordered Ragan to the pit stall on lap 57 for four tires, fuel and a track
bar adjustment. Ragan exited the pit stall in the 11th position. Green-flag
racing resumed on lap 60. |

Ragan cracked the top10 on lap 63 and never looked back. Despite the car's
handling woes Ragan ran a clean race, using different lines on the race track
to get around lap cars and put pressure on the lead pack. Kelley realized time
was running out in the race and wanted to make more adjustments before the
majority of the field cycled through green-flag pit stops. He called Ragan to
the pits on lap 122. Kelley ordered four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment.
Fortunately, the America's Tire pit crew had their best stop of the day when it
counted the most. Ragan exited the pit stall in just 13.7 seconds. By lap 129 he
was in the ninth position where he stayed for the remainder of the race. The caution
flew as the white-flag waved, ending the race and freezing the running order. Ragan
collected his 16th top-10 finish of the season. |

"Considering the last couple of weeks, it was pretty good run," said Ragan. "We were
average when we loaded, but we just kept working on our America's Tire Ford Fusion
toward the end of the race. I think we were pretty good. If we could start the weekend
all over again, I think we'd be alright. We've got to keep working. It was nice to get
a top-10, but we're still off from where we need to be." |

The ninth-place finish leaves Ragan sixth in the Nationwide Series point standings.
Ragan and the team will return to action Friday, September 5 th at Richmond
International Raceway. |
