Ragan Earns Top-10 Finish in Tough Race at Fontana |
 |

Fontana, Calif. (September 1, 2007)
David Ragan and the No. 6 Discount Tire team overcame many challenges
throughout the evening in the Camping World 300 NASCAR Busch Series
race at Fontana. The team fought an ill-handling racecar for much of
the night but they were determined to secure a good finish. Ragan and
the team were able to take advantage of the many mishaps of other
competitors to claim a solid 10th -place finish. |

The NASCAR Busch Series Camping World 300 was a star studded event with
many of NASCAR's elite Cup drivers competing in the race. Ragan started
the race in the 10th position but lost four spots the first few laps.
Ragan had a lot to say in the beginning of the race because he was
fighting an extremely tight race car. On lap 25, Ragan commented the Ford
Fusion was tight everywhere. Ragan had fallen to 22nd and a much needed
pit stop loomed large. Crew chief Mike Kelley ordered Ragan to the pits
on lap 42 under a green-flag. Upon entering the pit stall Kelley called
for four tires, fuel, track bar adjustment and a spring rubber out of
the left rear. An average pit stop left Ragan in the 34th position. |

On lap 55, Ragan commented the Ford Fusion was a little better. Ragan
gained five positions over the next 10 laps and was in the 24th position
when the caution flew on lap 67 for a horrific four-car accident. The
race was red-flagged for 28 minutes because of serious damage to the
safety barrier in turn one. When the caution flew, Ragan was ordered to
the pits on lap 71. Kelley ordered four tires, fuel, an air pressure
adjustment and another track bar adjustment. On the restart on lap 74,
Ragan had moved into the 21st position. Ragan stayed in that position
for the next 20 laps. The caution flew yet again on lap 94 for another
multi-car wreck. Ragan was ordered to the pit stall on lap 96. Kelley
called for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Ragan exited
the pit stall in the 20th position, one lap down. |

On the restart on lap 97, Ragan was in the 20th position. The Discount Tire
team was starting to figure out their handling problems. The Ford Fusion
came to life on lap 101. The team was in 18th when the caution flew again
on lap 106. It was great timing because the team got the lucky dog. The
Discount Tire team was back in the hunt for a good finish. Kelley ordered
Ragan to the pits on lap 109 for another round of adjustment. Kelley called
for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. A great pit stop left Ragan
in the 17th position on the restart on lap 110. The race stayed green for the
next 15 laps. Ragan managed to work his way through the field and secure the
15th position when the caution flew on lap 125. Ragan made one last pit stop
on lap 126 for minor adjustments. Four tires and a track bar adjustment was
the call. The race went green on lap 130 but a multi-car wreck on lap 132
halted the action once again. The Discount Tire team was confident the
adjustments made could make the difference in the race. Ragan had moved into
the 13th position when racing resumed on lap 140. Ragan made his move to the
front with an array of aggressive moves. With 10 laps to go Ragan gained three
positions and crossed the finish line with an impressive 10th place finish.
Ragan claimed his seventh top-10 finish of the year along with Rookie of the
race honors. |

"Tonight was a crazy race," said Ragan. "We took advantage of some mistakes
other drivers made. We had an average race car tonight but we hung in there
and kept fighting. We took care of our equipment and avoided the mistakes.
It paid off with a great top 10." |

The 10th-place finish leaves Ragan fifth in the Busch Series point standings.
Ragan and the team will return to action Friday, September 7th at Richmond
International Raceway. |
