Ragan Earns Another Hard Fought Top-Five Finish at The Milwaukee Mile
West Allis, Wis. (June 22, 2008)
David Ragan and the No. 6 Discount Tire team shined under the lights in the Camping World RV 250 at The Milwaukee Mile on Saturday night. Ragan, pulling double duty in both series, did not make it in time for practice or qualifying, flying from Sonoma, California, site of Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Auggie Vidovich filled in admirably in Ragan's absence and had the Discount Tire Ford Fusion set-up just right for the race. Ragan then outshined many of NASCAR's premier Nationwide Series drivers to capture a fourth-place finish.

Ragan did not waste any time making a move to the front of the field. Ragan established himself as a threat by gaining 21 positions and settling in the 20 th position by lap 18. Although Ragan was on the move early, his Ford Fusion was not handling properly. Ragan commented the car was tight through the center and needed to cut a little better. By lap 43 Ragan was in the 15 th position. A debris caution flew on lap 53. Crew chief Mike Kelley ordered Ragan to the pit stall on lap 56 for major adjustments. Kelley called for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 59 with Ragan in the 17 th position.
Ragan quickly gained three positions, running in the 14th position for the next 30 laps. Ragan still battled an ill-handling race car, but his Discount Tire Ford Fusion was threatening to crack the top 10 by the halfway point in the race. Ragan maneuvered through lap traffic on lap 128 and finally took over the 10 th position from Landon Cassill by lap 130. Ragan was running lap times as fast as the leaders when the caution flew for the fourth time on lap 148. Kelley called Ragan to the pit stall on lap 150 for another round of major adjustments. Kelley ordered four tires, fuel, an air pressure adjustment and a track bar adjustment. The pit stop proved to be the turning point in the race. The Discount Tire pit crew got Ragan back on the track in the fifth position when green-flag racing resumed on lap 153.
A hard charging Ragan moved into the third position after passing Brad Keselowski on lap 202. Ragan ran every line on the race track trying to catch the No. 2 of Clint Bowyer and his Roush Fenway Racing teammate Carl Edwards. The eighth caution of the night flew on lap 204 when Chase Miller lost control of his car in turn four. Ragan was called to the pits for the last time on lap 206. Kelley ordered four tires and fuel. An average pit stop got Ragan back on the track in the fifth position. When the smoke cleared there were 46 laps to go in the race. Ragan had his sights set on leader Carl Edwards, but time was running out for the Discount Tire team. Ragan gained one more position and brought home a fourth-place finish.
"We just needed a little bit more. The car was pretty decent all night. We were just a little tight through the center and bouncing getting into the corners. Our Discount Tire pit crew did an awesome job on pit road and we just have to keep working on particulars. Getting top fives and top 10s are great, but wins are our ultimate goal."
The fourth-place finish leaves Ragan fifth in the Nationwide Series point standings. Ragan and the team will return to action next Saturday, June 28 th at New Hampshire International Speedway.
